    65 Hours.

The most common cause for wick smoke is a wick that is too long.  Always be sure to trim the wick to 6mm (¼ inch).  Another potential cause is if the candle is burning in a draft.  If the flame is flickering excessively, check if it’s in an area that is windy/drafty and move it to a calmer spot.

Candle “tunneling” can be quite common.  The first time you burn your candle really sets the stage for its performance throughout its lifetime.  Ideally the first burn should be about 2-3 hours, and the melted wax pool should reach the edges of the candle.  This first burn sets the “memory” for the wax, and future burns will reach the edges of the first burn.

Each candle comes filled with a specific scent. However, once the first candle is burned through, wax refills of any scent fit into the glass vessel and can be completely mixed and matched thereafter.

Refilling our candles is easy!  Scoop out the final bit of leftover wax using a spoon.  It doesn’t have to be perfect, but be sure to remove the little metallic disk that used to be the base of the wick.  Then unwrap your refill, pop it into the glass vessel and enjoy your new candle!

ESPELMA candles are valuable objects in and of themselves! The glass vessels are handmade from start to finish by a skilled glassblower, and are therefore more time consuming to produce than most other industrially produced glass.  Also, we only use natural wax which is more costly than paraffin wax.

Our candles are made out of a blend of coconut wax, beeswax, soy wax.  Never any paraffin!

ESPELMA candles are entirely made in Italy. The glass is blown in Murano and the wax is poured in a nearby wax facility.
